Pick a word or phrase

Picking a word or phrase of the year for 2018 is a great way to keep yourself focused on the one thing that you really want to improve on this year. For instance last year my word was ‘Focus’ and I was able to really make this word play out in my life in so many different ways.

I tend to get distracted a lot, and I’ve since been able to gain more focus and clarity when I’m undertaking projects. I was even able to start a second business in 2017 just because I allowed myself to embody this word so well in 2017.

Another great idea is to find a great translation of your word. This could look really fancy in your journal.

P.S My word for 2018 is Consistency because I want to be a lot more consistent with my goals and the steps I need to follow to accomplish these goals.

Starting out?

If you’re just starting out and you’re not 100% sure if bullet journalling is something you want to do long-term and this cant justify in spaned money on an actual bullet journal and pens and other accessories, then you can easily start with a regular notebook, pens, and pencils that you have laying around. Then once you’ve decided that you like bullet journaling then you can try out the real thing!

BuJo Page Ideas

In order to get your bullet journal set up and ready to be used consider including some of these pages in your journal. The beauty of the Bullet Journal is it’s blankness and thus the possibility of adding just about any page you’d like.

However, this also seems to be a sore point for many people who are new to bullet journaling. The freedom seems to make choosing page ideas quite an overwhelming task.

I recommend adding pages that actually really mean something to you and tie into your goals for the year.

Here are some page ideas to consider:

Financial: monthly budget, bills to pay, savings goals, 52-week saving challenge, no spend challenge.

Health: fitness tracker, water tracker, calorie tracker, self-care ideas

Home: home improvement, auto maintenance,  wish list, recipes to try, go to recipes

Entertainment: books to read, tv series tracker, movie tracker

Kids: funny things they say, milestone tracker, behavior tracker, baby name ideas.

Essential Markers

Choose simplicity

It’s nice to look out and see all these beautifully designed bullet journals out there but if this is not you or you don’t have the time or inclination to make all those elaborate designs in your journal, it’s okay.

Bullet Journaling is a great way express your creativity, but don’t forget that it’s also a system designed to help you be productive. I see many people who are new to bullet journaling complain about not knowing how to design their journal ‘The Right Way.

The truth is that you don’t NEED to do this step…it’s just an added step that you can choose to do if you ENJOY being creative with pens, markers and such. It is by no means a necessity.

So, if you enjoy minimalism and would rather your journal be minimal and clean, then do just that!
